Intelligence Testing of Flying Cadet Applicants as one of ARMA Test (Report I)

Abstract
In order to put to practical use in the selection of flying cadets, a preliminary form of intelligence test including 8 subtests was prepared. It was given to 567 flying cadet applicants and 85 flying cadets who were, preparing themselves for flying training as an experimental try out.
The main results. obtained on the basis of the data presented so far and other considerations are as follows
1. According to item analysis, it is found that some items of this preliminary
form of intelligence test are desirable to be renewed.
2. Inter-test correlations are ranged from r=0.1 to r=0.442, and most of the
subtests show negligible correlations with a few exceptions.
3. Reliability of test is moderate on the whole. All of the subtests show not
so high correlation coeffients as a reliability of test, but the subtests 1, 2, 4, 5, 6,
7, show moderate reliability.
4. Validity of some subtests is fully considerable. However, an overall estimation will be obtained through a continual study, as the number of cases for predictive validity is not large.
5. Considering the results obtained through an experimental try out, more satisfactory form of intelligence test will be prepared, if the subtests 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, of the preliminary form are selected and renewed partly.
